Thriving in Medicine

Addressing purpose, wellness, and everything in between

Every time someone sees me, in or out of the hospital, and they ask how I’m doing, I say “I’m surviving.” and that really is the best you can do sometimes. But I’d like to explore changing the narrative and turn this place into a place of thriving.

Lovely to see you here

Hello there, I’m Dr. Boren, or more colloquially known as Rachel! I started my journey into medicine at Baylor University where I double-majored in Biochemistry and Biology and minored in Medical Humanities. Medical Humanities helped define the real “why” behind medicine. From there I went to Medical School in the Rio Grande Valley and earned those fancy letters at the end of my name. I started my residency in Pediatrics at the University of Texas Houston and have been redefining everything I know about the practice of medicine! The journey is long, chaotic, rewarding, and sometimes disheartening; but it’s defined by humanity and how we not only survive but thrive both as practitioners and humans. This site is a place to write and feel and share experiences and wisdom, I hope you find what you’re looking for!
